Christ Consciousness for the Holidays

Note: I use the terms Christ Consciousness and Cosmic Consciousness interchangeably. I may even write God(dess), the Buddha Mind, Allah, the quantum field or the noosphere. Groking oneness, wholeness and interbeing allows for such adventures out of a limited worldview and the space time continuum. There is but one. I mostly like to call it Love.

An initial experience that I have at the start of the winter holiday season, when first hearing Christmas music playing in stores, malls and plazas, etc. is yucky! I’m thinking, “It’s too early!” “It’s become all about marketing and profit!” “How can we celebrate so joyously when so many people are suffering?” I swiftly retreat to my mindfulness practice to change my thinking and attitude, and to appreciate the finer and sacred aspects of the season. Truly, I enjoy the merriment and messages of the various religious and earth-based traditions, including, but not limited to, Christianity.

And then I hear the one song that inevitably summons my tears of joy and sparks the recognition of “the reason for the season.” I’ll quote just two lines of the song. You’ll likely know the rest. “Fall on your knees. O hear the angels’ voices.” It’s from the song O Holy Night, written by a French composer in 1847. Something in the power of the words resonates directly in my heart and tear ducts. I’m overcome by feelings of compassion and devotion. Regarding the song, how many have had that deep and profound an experience, to actually fall on your knees in ecstasy when hearing voices of the divine? Or, more commonly, having tears of appreciation and gratitude when hearing the overture of a magnificent symphony? Or being in rapt awe when witnessing a glorious sunset or the sweet smile of an infant? Experiences such as these can evoke a range of senses, feelings and bodily responses.

They can, if we truly grok the implications of the words and we’re open to that depth of feeling.

Fall on your knees. O hear the angels’ voices. O tune into and strengthen your intuitive neural pathways. Listen to the information emanating from your heart chakra and from the universal mind. Tap into the intelligence beyond the colonized, rational, linear, reductionistic brain to access the nonlocal mind, or soul if you prefer. This is now the depth of understanding emerging in science, and merging with the callings of the prophets, mystics and avatars of the ages. Hear the angels’ voices. They’re all around us and within. They’re available.

Fall on your knees in wonder and awe in understanding that we are one with each other in terms of freedom, justice and equity; we are one with a living Earth in terms of sustainability and regenerativity; and we are one with a conscious universe however one wishes to know and name it. We can heal and transform ourselves and, vitally, we can participate in changing the world. We are evolving as a species to hear the angels – the elementals, the spirit guides, ancestors, kin from other dimensions, and God within. We are one. Fall on your knees when feeling the hope and promise of this emerging worldview of our inter- and intra-connectedness. Yes, tears of joy and compassion. Feel this emerging ontology – this understanding of reality and resulting glimmer of hope. Feel it for the seven generations to follow. Feel it for the clean water that they will have free access to drink.

And so I celebrate this Christ Consciousness. I welcome and gladly allow the tears. I celebrate that within me which is called to trumpet this emerging story, and that within you that hears the narrative and shouts it from the rooftop. Or that helps feed the homeless this holiday season. Namaste. That Divine essence within me recognizes and honors that Divine essence in you. All of us. Happy Holidays in finding the meaning of the season which you hold most high, feeling it deeply, and expressing your joy. Fall on your knees. Hear the angels’ voices. That’s Love.

I appreciate the interchangeability of the words you use. Feels like more freedom to imagine and grasp the concept you are talking about. It's a great story for this holiday issue.
